Japanese Mint Julep

Japanese Mint Julep

Just in time for the Kentucky Derby… my unconventional twist on Churchill Down’s most beloved drink, the Mint Julep. Traditionally, these are made with Kentucky Bourbon, however I have been infatuated with Japanese whiskey ever since my father gave my husband a bottle of Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt Whisky (they love gifting each other bottles of brown liquor). The Japanese version is very trendy right now – and for good reason. It tastes much more refined and smoother than those which you find here in the states.

If you can’t get your hands on a bottle of Japanese Whiskey – you can totally make this cocktail with any kind you have in your liquor cabinet. Some of our favorites include Elijah Craig (12 Year), Glenfiddich Reserve (14 Year), and Widow Jane (10 Year).

Tip: If you are using sugar cubes – add a dash of club soda before muddling to help them breakdown more easily.
