This marinade is packed with ingredients that help tenderize meat and impart so much umami and flavor – that you’ll find practically anything marinated in this to be simply irresistible. Don’t let the soy sauce and ginger throw you off – the end result won’t have you feeling like you went to a Japanese steakhouse for dinner. In fact, both the soy sauce and ginger have enzymes which help to break down the protein – which is why you may see these ingredients hidden in even some of your favorite store bought marinades. You can cook your steak/protein using whichever method you like, however I think that grilling (and getting those delicious charred bits) is the best method. This recipe is good for one large steak or two smaller steaks, so make sure to double/triple the recipe if you are cooking in larger volumes.
** I prefer using this marinade on skirt, flank, and strip steaks. Higher end cuts such as filet or rib eye are best using traditional French method (salt rubbed and sauteed in a pan or cast iron with oil/butter).
